Luminous Hues was my first interactive art piece shown at CB Nuit in 2021. With this work, I wanted to intrigue the senses and allow each passerby the opportunity to stop and play. To alter what art ‘is’ and exhibit what it has the potential to be and do for us individually; allow yourself to have fun.

In this body of work, I create complicated drawings using a compass, removing and adding lines until the drawing has come to a desired state. With this technique, I have created a multitude of free hand, hard edge paintings, with each new painting more complicated than the last. My work manipulates the viewer’s optical perception by making a two-dimensional surface appear three-dimensional through careful use of line, shape, colour, texture, depth and space throughout. Each work is meant to show how these elements can be adjusted to change the appearance of one piece to the next, and to show how people see things differently depending on how one’s individual visual system takes in the image and breaks it up internally. With each new work, I try to strengthen my knowledge of illusion and use of skills to further confuse but also intrigue the minds eye. As I continue into this practice, I am developing new ideas and methods of achieving a desired state for each individual painting.

Since I was a young girl, I have always been fascinated by space; I longed to figure out a way to create paintings that looked like they could be photographs of space. This past year, I have done a lot of experimenting, and have figured out a way to achieve what I desired. This series in a way is directly related to my exploration of Op Art; Space in itself is an optical illusion. What we see when we look through a telescope into space is actually the past reflected through both light and the time it takes to get to our reachable visual field. I am working on integrating these Starscapes into my Simplicity Through Complexity to create work that is ultimately puzzling to the eye.

In this series, I have put a focus on colour and movement. I have always had an interest in paint that looked like it was wet or moving but is not. Since I have started working towards creating Op Art in different methods, I have been experimenting with fluid techniques, working with coloured and white paint to achieve movement frozen in time. Through these works, I have explored various colour combinations with different thicknesses and techniques for application to create a variety of effects once they are completely dry.

During my studies, I took many sculpture classes to build up my knowledge and skills, and experiment with many different mediums. This is a small collection of some of the works I absolutely loved making and also show some of my skill and ability in these mediums.

Through this series, I wanted to show a gradual incline on how organic matter could take over fabricated material. This progression came from an interest of mine that I have dwelled on for the past few years; the end of humanity and rebirth from the ashes of our past. This idea intrigued the thought of how the worlds natural organisms would take it back and destroy everything unnatural in it. Along with bumping civilization back to post-evolution, but also how fast all the buildings, highways, monuments, everything that we have built here, would crumble. Through these works, I have created a growth from each sculpture to the next to emanate organic growth and the end of our geometric world as we know it.
